The Ukelele Orchestra of GB has delved into the dark heart of that song and come up with a radical revision. I am moved, torn apart, ashamed, and amused. It’s like Don Ho doing “The Times They Are a-Changin’.”

My personal favourite cover of ‘Smells like Teen Spirit” is The Moog Cookbook’s retro analog synth version with sitar, although Tori Amos’ sensitive piano interpretation runs a reasonable second.

Or, more recently, like Don Ho singing “Sabotage”.

Your youth is a joke, George? Check out Luther Wright and the Wrongs, and their bluegrass/country cover of “The Wall” – the whole damn album. It works remarkably well.
