Apparently the Brits have an entire day for poetry, which is about 1,439 more minutes than any other English-speaking country. Sigh. So what does a “poetry day” mean to you. Don’t ask me that. My answer may not be as spritely as some.

My ideal poetry day would be getting a free copy of a poetry book by a small publisher, then skipping though the poetry section of a largish University library like McGill and, with arms wide apart, running my hands along the spines of books, and then topping it all off with Dennis Lee buying me a pint of beer at a local pub. Alas, all my days are poetry days I suppose but they involve less skipping, and more writing and self-loathing.

The notion that we need a Poetry Day is sad indeed
