There’s a variety of reactions around the Borders UK closing, ranging from running around with hair on fire screaming “We’re all going to die!!!” to running around with hair on fire screaming “Not necessarily!” Glad to see reasoned thought has not be lost.

Well, I hope this is not a sign of things to come for Borders internationally. There is a Borders one mile from my house in Anchorage Alaska, yes we have them in Alaska. My wife and kids spend huge amounts of time there. My oldest does his college homework there…at least he says he does. (there are an inordinate number of cute young ladies of college age there though).
Then again, while it is sad to see a business going bust anywhere, I am pretty certain someone will fill the void they leave behind in the UK. Maybe it will open the door for some good indie stores to fill the empty niche. Someone with a better business plan that can weather the tough times ahead without losing their heads.
