Congratulations to all, both those with the bigger cheques and those nominated who go away with the smaller cheques. In all truth, it really is being nominated at all that’s the award. You should see how hard it is to pick those five, much less one. The winners will be listed here, but I can tell you now that David Zieroth just won moments ago for poetry. More to come on this over time, including my thoughts on the whole thing. Right now, just celebrate literature!
- Pullinger for Fiction
- Zieroth for Poetry
- Loring for Drama
- Vassanji for Non-Fiction

I’d never heard of Zieroth, but I’ve looked him up now and rather like his work. I’ll be very interested to hear your thoughts on the whole GG process.

Let’s not forget “Bella’s Tree”

I haven’t read any of these books. I now have to weigh my wanting to see what the Zeiroth is all about versus my not wanting to be a salivating dog when it comes to reactive, awards-based book buying.

It’s true that just being mentioned is a huge victory. As always, the real winners are the readers who get to experience in a few hours what these folks have taken months to craft. Kudos!
