I’ve got a crazy week ahead of me, preparing for a big event at my day job, so I’m not sure how much posting will be done. Check back, but don’t send me angry emails if nothing’s here. Here’s a few news items to keep your vampiric desire for media blood blunted.
Good news:
- French townsfolk buy local bookstore to keep it from closing
- September sales up 7%
- Canadian writers first to reject Google deal
- Popular Chinese author wins Asian Booker
Bad news:
- Sarah Palin trying to pretend like she wrote her pack of lies all alone
- Another supermarket joins book pricing war for Xmas
- Word of the year for Oxford American is “unfriend”
- Teens love Twilight
It depends on where you stand:

The Cory Doctorow article says:
It’s his commitment and encouragement of sharing that makes Doctorow a thorn in the side of some in the publishing industry (though it should be noted his own publisher, Tor, is part of Macmillan, which in turn is a subsidiary of the massive German conglomerate Holtzbrinck).
Really? It seems like some things are offered for total sharing like Cory’s (and a million other books, songs, movies, TV shows, etc.,) and some things aren’t and the problem is some people can’t tell them apart.
