    The article about independent bookstores was interesting. It makes sense that big chain stores are slow and cumbersome. I wonder if there is room in this economy for a comeback for local business, including independent bookstores?

    Hirst’s Darwin cover is about the laziest piece of crap I’ve ever seen. A diced-up animal would at least have been vaguely appropriate. If a design company had produced that cover, Penguin probably would have demanded their money back.

    I saw this edition at Bob Miller Bookroom today. Not as bad as I thought, and rather poshly produced. Still, the horror novel aesthetic doesn’t exactly work for the book in question.
