The Times has a full section of articles and goodies on the Pullman books and movies. I’m used to being disappointed by other people’s visions of literary worlds, but this one particularly misses the imagery for me. I think I might have to take a pass.

But George, I thought you had a thing for Nicole Kidman. Doesn’t that count for something?
November 29th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
We’re so through. In fact, I don’t know where you got that, P. I’ve always found her slightly repulsive. I might have been making a joke a some point and needed to the Kidman punchline. I tend to make jokes.

You must have been making a joke. I know your a Loeb man.

Loeb person, Paul. Person.

do you guys know each other? george and paul, i mean. I’m thinking yes.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:25 am
We did once, long ago when the crust of the earth hadn’t quite solidified.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:42 am
ah.. that explains a lot. I like both you guys, even tho you’re so old.
November 30th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
In line 3, I should have typed “you’re” not “your.”
Thanks, Monica. And we prefer the adjective “weathered” to “old.” It sounds better.
November 30th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
ok, Weathered. We’ll use that one. Paul, don’t worry about your typographical error, George makes way more than you do.
November 30th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Is it just me or does complaining about typographical errors kind of make one stand out as a bit of a loser. Idiots make mistakes and don’t notice because they know no better; intelligent people make mistakes but don’t care because they know that their message will get across anyway. The only people who really get their noses out of joint are those who fancy themselves not idiots, but haven’t truly reached the level of the intelligentsia.
Or maybe I just didn’t think Eats, Shoots and Leaves was all that?
November 30th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
i think Paul was just jerking George’s chain. That’s how i took it.
November 30th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
Oh, that’s how I took it too. I was just saying that, unless one is a notoriously bad speller, there’s little point in correcting typos. Just spreading the love is all; working against the grammar Nazis one typographical hug at a time.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
I’m a semi-reformed grammar/spelling nerd. I’m to the point where i still cannot fail to see the mistakes, but usually refrain from saying anything. Except for the time i saw a sign advertising the perfume “Poisson”. i just had to ask if the perfume really did smell like fish. I don’t think it would have sold very well.

I can think of one behaviour that makes someone seem like a loser even more than correcting one’s own typos.

Weathered? What does than make me, Eroded?
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:58 am
Gee, and here’s me thinking I might find out something about the Pullman movie in this discussion. How naive!
