“There has never, ever been a character like Harry Potter”

Reader NiteOwl tried to post this in the comments, but the spam bot ate it. As reported below, Waterstones wants Rowling to keep writing Harry stories and starts their petition off by calling Harry original. So here it is in all it’s glory: Harry Potter, the most original story ever told. Cue rolling credits. Funny funny shit.

  1. Susan says:

Oh, come on now. The paradigm of the hero’s journey is familiar from hundreds of tales. It’s more likely Rowling read Joseph Campbell than that she copied Star Wars.

  2. Niteowl says:

True, JK Rowling is most likely not copying Star Wars. But the parody does illustrate that Harry, by following the hero’s journey, falls short of the statement : “there has never, ever been a character like Harry Potter”.

  3. Doctor Slack says:

May Joseph Campbell never again be used as an excuse for lazy orphan-makes-good plots. This is my fervent wish.

  4. Jason says:

Has orphan Annie taught you nothing Dr. Slack? Orphans always win.
